MASSAGE THERAPY TREATMENTS

WHAT IS MASSAGE THERAPY?

Massage is the manual manipulation of muscle, fascia, joints and other soft tissues in the body. With the goal of relieving tension, pain, stress and symptoms of injury, massage helps encourage the body to heal itself, while promoting optimal wellness, full body postural awareness, and balance within the nervous system.

Pregnancy & Postpartum Massage

From the very beginning of pregnancy until the day of delivery, and continuing several months postpartum, the body goes through an incredible full circle transition. Massage therapy can be a very supportive modality throughout this journey to encourage relaxation, relieve back pain and pelvic discomfort, and reduce edema and stress.

I have specialty pregnancy bolsters that allow you to lay prone (face down) or on your side. My electric massage table is fully adjustable allowing your head and/or feet to be elevated while laying on your back. This option is great if you experience heart burn or edema (swelling) in your ankles and feet.

Therapeutic Breast Massage

Generally the goal with breast massage is to ensure that there is mobility and movement within the tissues of the breast, underlying muscles and fascia around the chest, back, shoulder and ribs and that lymph is flowing without obstruction. This is a gentle approach with additional consent to ensure you feel safe and at ease throughout the duration of the treatment. Breast massage is indicated for those with pain related to menstruation, pregnancy and menopause, blocked ducts, mastitis, scar tissue and adhesions from implants, reductions, removal, lumpectomy and mastectomy.

Scar Tissue Massage

Massage techniques can be beneficial in softening scar tissue by freeing restrictive fibrous bands and increasing local circulation. If addressed early in the recovery, massage can also help to reduce the amount of scar tissue that develops by reducing the edema (fluid retention) in the affected area. Massage helps to desensitize scars that are especially sensitive. I provide home care instructions to show you how to do self massage and improve the healing of your scar. Please note that it's never too late to receive treatment for your scar.

Scar tissue treatment is indicated for c-sections, breast implants, removal and reductions, mastectomy and any other post op surgery or open wound injury.

TMJ Massage

The temporomandibular joint is where the jaw bone meets the skull on either side of your face. Dysfunction in this area can present as pain, headaches, toothaches, clicking/popping in the joint, clenching, grinding teeth, unable to fully open mouth, reduced hearing or a fullness in the ears, and sometimes tinnitus (ringing in the ears). Gentle massage techniques can be applied both intraorally (inside the mouth) and externally on the face, scalp, neck and ears to reduce trigger points and any restrictions in the muscle and connective tissue. Vinyl gloves are always worn for intraoral work.
